:- 1.0 out of 5 stars from Avid Mystery Reader -- The first Blake Pierce book I've been disappointed with. : I have read and thoroughly enjoyed most, if not all of Pierce's books, so I was excited to find a new protagonist. Unfortunately there are several errors, in addition to numerous typos, that make this feel more like a first attempt, than a book by a very accomplished author. To wit: There is a Pro Choice group protesting a fertility clinic?? And one of the Pro Choice members tells the FBI that abortion is murder! Secondly, Rachel's child, Paige, is in kindergarten, but is celebrating her 8th birthday in a couple of months?? Then, at the end of the book, she is suddenly described as a six-year old. Either the author didn't use advance readers, or he needs a new crew who is more thorough when reading the book. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2021 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from TXSenora -- Good plot but poor editing : Blake Pierce is one of my favorite authors. This book was poorly done, editing wise. Aside from the typos, there is a major blunder. In chapter 4, Lucinda Masters is the first victim. In the fourth paragraph, it is stated that until two years ago, she and Kel (her husband) had agreed that they never wanted children. Then we get to chapter 7. Sgt Owens is describing Lucinda to Rachel and Jack. He says that Kel is Lucinda's new husband of four months and that she had been divorced from her first husband a few months before. So were she and her first husband separated for a long time and she and Kel had been living together for a long time before getting married? It would have been nice to know for clarity. She is given News about her immortality. She's told she has a brain tumor and it's basically inoperable, but miracles do happen and maybe they got something wrong. Rachel has a loving husband Peter and a beautiful daughter, Paige, who is in kindergarten and is the love of her parents life 🧬. Rachel is 33 years old and her husband is a blonde hair, gorgeous 36 years old. Rachel's partner at the FBI is Agent Jack Rivers and boss Director Chief Anderson, he put them on the case of the person who is stabbing ladies who are trying to have children, they have been going to fertility clinics. The story gives me hope that maybe there will be a miracle somewhere along the way as Blake Pierce writes the Rachel Gift Suspense thriller. Get this wonderful story I hope you love it as much as I do. It's definitely not just a Good Read but an excellent one as only Blake Pierce can do. That's the first time I complained about spelling in all the years I been reading. Mr. Pierce I really did like and truly enjoyed the story though. So annoying, she added a “th” sound to the end of almost every word. : I can’t comment on the story and the talent of the author, because I simply could not listen one more millisecond. I can get past the British accent for an American based story, what I can’t abide is the lisp. Where was the producer on this production? That person’s job was to say, “your fired “. Where was the author oversight? This is his talent on the line, and this narration was a story killer. Here are some new words the narrator created for your cringeworthy dis-enjoyment. Point-th, Yet-th, Husband-th, Is-th, Card-th, Yard-th, Nodded-th, Visit-th, Needed-th, Understood-th, Out-th, That-th, Print-th, Affected-th, Past-th, Nodded-th, Beyond-th, Stairs-th, Wild-th and this doozy of a sentence, “I doubt-th it-th, the coroner answered-th”. The characters are good, the story keeps your attention, & is well written. Anxious to begin book 2 of the series. The only distraction was the many misspelled words, typos etc, which is not the author, but the fault of the printer or editor. This seemed to "break the flow" for me. The book itself was very good. It would have been a solid 5 star book had there not been so many typos. I reported at least a dozen of not more. It led me to believe there was no editor involved. In fact, it looks like this is a non-edited author’s first draft. Forget about the grammatical mistakes, at times even facts are not in order. Wish this was edited properly because the plot is good.
